Paul Racine's Biography

Paul Racine was born in Montreal, Quebec, and it was during his first year of university at Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario that he began a real relationship with the historical and Biblical Jesus, focused not on religious performance but on the grace and love of Christ.

Upon graduating with a BA from Carleton University, Paul joined a campus ministry and was stationed at the University of Manitoba. He worked there primarily in the Athletic department with students in the areas of discipleship and evangelism. It was also at the University of Manitoba that he met his wife to be, Patty. They were married in 1981 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan and were then transferred to Ottawa to work on the campuses there.

During his time in Ottawa, Paul also got involved in leading chapels for different sports teams in the city, as well as continuing with leadership development, discipleship, mentoring and speaking at different events.

In 1984 Paul made the transition from full-time ministry to working on Parliament Hill where he spent the next 11 years. During that time he worked for Member of Parliament Benno Friesen, who became a mentor and major influence in his life for nine of those years, and the relationship continues to bless Paul to this day. The experiences on Parliament Hill broadened his understanding on how to think and act as a Christian on major issues and events, as well as broadening his understanding of leadership at higher levels. Paul also had the opportunity to help serve the Parliament Hill Christian Fellowship group during those years as well as continue in youth ministry through his local church.

Paul left the Hill in 1995 and joined the staff of Young Life Canada as well becoming a part-time Pastor. Paul had been on associate staff with Young Life since 1990 working with youth as a lay leader while serving on Parliament Hill. Working directly in the high schools, with sports teams in the community and being involved in effective camp ministry were the highlights of his years with them. He served with them until 2001.

In 2001 it was decided that an umbrella, parachurch, ministry should be set up that would allow Paul to be able to work in the greater Ottawa region with Youth Pastors and leaders in a mentoring and networking role. Doulos Ministries was formed.

Paul has been blessed to work in his areas of spiritual gifting, speaking in many different areas; leadership development, mentoring, coaching, coming alongside to encourage, comfort and strengthen and helping people realise their major role in the story God has for them.

Paul has been married to his best friend Patty for over 35 years. That has been one of the greatest blessings in his life. They have three adult sons, three beautiful daughters in law and 5 grand children!

Paul’s hobbies include coaching football, reading, writing, working out and being with friends on the golf course.
